Science forms an important part of the curriculum of every child. The science curriculum builds on children’s knowledge through practical activities. The content of the work covered forms the basis of a broad and balanced scientific experience. Science is taught through topics, for example animals, including humans, in Year 1 and use of everyday materials in Year 2.
We aim to give the children opportunities to develop an enquiring mind so that they are able to tackle and solve scientific problems. The children are taught to respect the environment and living things through first hand experiences.
The children are encouraged to be aware of the safety aspect in all science activities.
The children are encouraged at all times to: observe closely, ask questions, perform simple tests, identify and classify and to use their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions. In the course of their work children will develop their recording skills.
