Art and Music
Art at our school provides an enjoyable and enriching experience for our children. Children represent their ideas and develop their skills through the full range of media: drawing and painting, printing, 3D work (including play dough, clay, recyclable and commercial construction materials), collage and textiles. They observe, explore (both visually and by touching and feeling), discuss, and express preferences and experiment. They learn to appreciate the work of some famous artists and about art from other cultures and times.
Vibrant displays, which are regularly changed, and presentations of children’s art in the classrooms are an important feature of our school, and we celebrate all children’s achievements.
Music is a key part of our curriculum and our music provision includes traditional, modern and intercultural pieces. Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. The teaching of music develops pupils’ ability to listen and appreciate the variety and quality of music. Emphasis is placed on the enjoyment and making of music. We do this through teaching all the music dimensions/elements in a variety of ways, including singing and playing a wide range of percussion instruments.
Children listen to a variety of recorded music and visitors are invited into school to give the children opportunities to hear live music. We provide varied musical experiences for the children, including a school choir - Singing Stars.
